Ever heard a story like this.... On July 11, 2010, LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas fire investigators have ruled the explosion at a downtown NV Energy substation as accidental. Two people were hurt the morning of July 11 when an NV Energy substation exploded downtown and sparked a two-alarm fire. Officials said the blast was reported at 6:36 a.m. after witnesses said a vacant building at 1004 S. Main St. had violently exploded. Two adults were on the sidewalk at the time and both were taken to University Medical Center, one for treatment of cuts from flying debris and the other for smoke inhalation. Both are expected to survive, officials said. The blast and ensuing two-alarm blaze caused extensive damage to the substation and moderate damage to nearby businesses in the 900 and 1000 block of Commerce Avenue and Main and First streets, officials said. Damage to nearby structures consisted mainly of broken glass caused by flying metal and concrete, according to officials.
